Agalloch Empty
PostSubject: Agalloch   Agalloch EmptyMon Jun 29, 2009 8:50 pm

Agalloch is an amazing black metal band hailing from the United States. Calling them a black metal band , however, does not do them justice. They stretch their roots out into other genres as ambient, folk, and post-rock and even into various sub-metal genres as folk and doom metal. Their lyrical themes include nature, depression, darkness, and winter.

As a newcomer to the band, I would recommend...

Ashes Against the Grain

Youtube Sample:
Falling Snow
Not Unlike The Waves

As far as the other albums, The Mantle and Pale Folklore are both just as good and as available on the internet. Agalloch's newest EP, The White, is a neofolk / ambient album with none of the harsh black metal vocals.

I would venture to say that Agalloch is my favorite band and has been for several years. I own hardcopies of most of the work, which was pricey as most of them are limited releases and they are a very popular and accessible group.

yeah, I've enjoyed this band for awhile now. The songs I've heard though have all been toward their more ambient/folk side. Which I enjoy, btw I like both of the songs posted, had heard the first one before.

If the samples are anything to judge by, I like it.

Will listen to more...

"Agalloch is an amazing black metal band"

how the fuck did you get black metal out of Agalloch? aside from the first release and some VERY minor segments from then on, they aren't black metal at all. closer to neo-folk.

I heard more folk in there than black metal too. Still a great band though.

NECROMANCY!

Picked up The Mantle today. Good album is good. Has only left the stereo recently and that was for Cathedral's first album, which is hard to beat in terms of awesome.

About time, that album gets a lot of plays in the morning.
