If I called it Viking metal would you be less upset? Viking metal seems to be generally accepted as a sub-genre of Folk, and Vikings were the original pirates, in any case. | |

| Generally people who accept Viking Metal do so on the basis that it often has a distinctive sound that differs from other black/folk/epic metal, while pirate metal certainly doesn't have a distinctive sound, compared Alestorm with Running Wild with Swashbuckle, for instance.
So, in conclusion, calling Alestorm pirate metal or viking metal would give me a heart attack. 'Cause it's straightforward power/folk metal stuff. | |
