OH LORK, CONTENT!

Adam and the Ants - Cartrouble Parts 1&2
The first Adam and the Ants album, Dirk Wears White Sox, is excellent but after this one they go in a really terrible new wave direction. Don't look any further into them.

Bauhaus - A God in an Alcove
Bauhaus is pretty awesome from In the Flat Field to Sky's Gone Out, Burning from Inside and Go Away White aren't very good.

The Cure - The Holy Hour
Everyone knows The Cure, but most people don't know that they used to be awesome before Robert Smith turned into a medicated freak. You should listen to their first four albums.

The Damned - Generals
Okay, so technically not Post-Punk, but fits in with the general feel of the scene. Their early albums are punk, later stuff is gothic art rock.

Joy Division - Wilderness
Awesome band, it really is too bad that we only got two albums before the vocalist hung himself. Want a band to blame for goth rock, blame these guys.

Magazine - Permafrost
Their first album is better, but this song is one of my favourite by Magazine. You remember the Buzzcocks? One of their early members who decided he was too awesome for them is the main songwriter for Magazine. He made a good choice, wasted talent would have been wasted.

Public Image LTD - Annalisa
One of the earlier post-punk releases, despite the cover art this is a very rewarding listen.

The Raincoats - The Void
This is an album worth getting on vinyl, absolutely sublime from start to finish. It is, however, most certainly mood music. Keep it for a rainy day, like the garment the band is named after.

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Icon
Even Fenriz loves Siouxsie, if that isn't enough of a reason to click that link and listen for five minutes, you should reevaluate your life

Wire - Field Day for the Sundays
Post-punk in one of its earliest forms, the Sex Pistols influence is still pretty noticable in Pink Flag. Listen.

I listened to these samples through to the Magazine song, and I must say I'm interested and going to do some downloading to listen to some albums further. The Joy Division, The Cure and Magazine songs were all good, I'll get around to sampling the rest later.

I can see how Joy Division influenced goth rock too, the vocal styles (deep cleans) are quite similar.

I must insist that you check out Siouxsie and the Banshees as immediatly as possible as well. In my opinion they are one of the most important bands of the lot.

I checked out the rest and none made an impression on me, except Siouxsie and the Banshees. That's definitely the best of the lot, I really enjoyed it. Great stuff.

From what I recall, when it comes to metal, me and Kerb seem to have somewhat similar musical tastes so I'll be checking these out at some point that I have the laptop for more than half an hour.

Indeed, if I recall correctly the only overlap we didn't have back in the day metal-wise was that you liked tech-death and I didn't.

What Siouxsie albums would you suggest I get Perry?

Personally I like Join Hands the most. The Scream is also a pretty good place to start.
